Project Overview
The Halifax Commercial Learn-to-Swim Facility represents the original Bunka Pool and the foundation of our modular swimming system. Originally developed as a demonstration facility, the project quickly evolved into a fully operational commercial learn-to-swim venue, supporting swimming lessons, instructor training, private hire and community swimming over several years. Unlike a traditional prototype, this facility operated exactly as intended in a real commercial environment. Every lesson delivered, every instructor, every parent and every child contributed valuable feedback that enabled Bunka to continually refine and improve the system. Today the facility is entering its next chapter. Rather than replacing the installation, the complete pool is being refurbished and prepared for relocation, demonstrating one of the key advantages of the Bunka modular system — long-term adaptability, reuse and sustainable infrastructure.
The Challenge
Bunka wanted to create more than simply a demonstration pool. The objective was to develop a fully operational commercial facility capable of supporting real swimming lessons while simultaneously providing an environment where the Bunka system could be continually evaluated and improved through day-to-day operation. This required a practical, durable and commercially viable solution that would withstand regular use while maintaining the flexibility expected from modular construction.
Our Solution
Bunka delivered the complete facility from concept through to operation. The project included the complete Bunka modular swimming pool system, full internal fit-out, commercial swimming pool installation, dedicated changing facilities, shower facilities, commercial filtration and water treatment, plant room installation, commissioning, staff familiarisation and operational support.
In Operation
Over several years the Halifax facility successfully operated as a commercial learn-to-swim venue. The pool supported swim schools, children’s swimming lessons, instructor training, private hire and community users, demonstrating that a modular Bunka facility could operate successfully in a real commercial environment while delivering an excellent customer experience.

Continuous Development
The Halifax project became Bunka’s live development platform. Operating the pool commercially influenced structural engineering, modular construction methods, pipework integration, installation techniques, internal finishes, operational efficiency, plant room layouts, future Bunka Volt™ development, customer experience and product reliability.
Customer Experience
Throughout its operation the Halifax facility received consistently positive feedback from parents, children, instructors and commercial operators. Families appreciated the welcoming environment and purpose-built teaching space, while instructors benefited from a facility designed around learn-to-swim programmes.
Project Outcome
Following several successful years of operation, the Halifax facility is now being refurbished and prepared for relocation. Rather than becoming redundant, the modular Bunka system allows the complete facility to be dismantled, transported and recommissioned at a new location.
